Although best known for its role in the Civil War, Frederick County, Maryland is also home to a number of attractions for every member of the family. From the history buff to the fun lover to the animal enthusiast, Frederick has an attraction that is sure to please every member of the family.

National Museum of Civil War Medicine

Founded with the purpose of preserving the history of the medical advancements made on the field during the Civil War, the National Museum of Civil War Museum houses a number of exhibits telling the poignant story of battlefield medicine. The museum's collections include items used by both the Union and the Confederacy, including surgical instruments, medical knapsacks, a table used for amputations at a filed hospital, an original copy of the Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion, and an original volume of the Recollections of the Army of the Potomac.

The museum also hosts a number of temporary exhibits, which in the past have included topics such as medical education, recruitment, and camp life. The Museum of Civil War Medicine is open Monday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. and on Sunday from 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. Admission is $6 for adults, with slightly lower rates for children, seniors, students, and military personnel. Their contact information can be found below:
