Haunted Houses In Oakland County Michigan

According to legend, King James I of England (formerly King James VI of Scotland), notorious for his persecutions of alleged witches, gave the Queen’s House to his wife, Anne of Denmark, as an apology for swearing at her in public after she accidentally shot his dog while they were hunting.

Work on the Queen’s House began in 1616, but stopped when she became ill two years later. The building, with its rich history, is the site of paranormal activity and where a man took a photograph of a ghostly figure by the Tulip Staircase.

Haunted Queen’s House History

King Charles I had the residence completed for his wife Queen Henrietta Maria in 1635. The English Civil War that started in 1642 led to his execution. During the war, Greenwich Palace, used as a prisoner of war facility, fell into poor condition. The Queen’s House survived the Commonwealth reign and was used as an official government residence. After the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1662, Charles II enlarged the Queen’s House for his mother.
