Picture Of Jesus And A Light House
Although every bodily component is important for the health of any organism, blood may be the body’s most essential element. Without blood, no organs would receive oxygen or nutrients. Without blood, no human or animal could live. According to Leviticus 17:11, life itself is in the blood and blood makes atonement for the soul.
In Jewish law, blood could not be eaten, and animal blood was shed to atone for sin.
Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the image of God He made man.” The value of life is plainly stated in this verse, based on the belief that God set man set apart from other animals.
Why Blood Atoned for Sin
Some critics of the Christianity may perceive as repugnant the subject of blood in the Bible, both the shedding of animal blood in the Old Testament sacrifices for sin and the shedding of Jesus’ blood as atonement for the sins of the world. The notion is foreign to many and disturbing to others.
